Ronnie Bryan, PhD

Hi, I'm Ronnie, one of the founders of Hbartutoring :) I grew up in Knoxville, TN, where I started teaching at an early age, explaining math and science since the time my younger brothers were old enough to understand (and maybe a bit before that). With that experience, hard work in school, and a little luck, I attended MIT, graduating in 2004 with a SB in Brain and Cognitive Science. My first job out of college was at Princeton, to pursue human brain imaging of high level vision. In 2012, I received a PHD in Computation and Neural Systems from Caltech for my work on the role of 3D vision in social cognition. That research made innovations in photography, image processing, and crowd-source data collection to describe subconscious biases in economic decision making. Throughout that time, I was involved in student government, social activism, and math/science/SAT tutoring. Ultimately, teaching was what I gravitated most toward :)

I have been the Math Department Chair at Sequoyah School in Pasadena, a high school I helped to found in 2016, as well as Fusion Academy in Pasadena. Students of Sequoyah who want tutoring should use code "Ayoka" for a discount. I also am an Adjunct Professor of Human Biology at LA Trade Tech College, a position I've held since 2014. In Fall of 2021, I will be joining the faculty of Sierra Canyon School to teach upper level mathematics. Although I love these roles, they limit the amount of tutoring I am available for :/

My side project is Mythical Math, a book series that presents a new approach to Algebra, Geometry, and Algebra 2 using Greek mythology. Please inquire if you are interested to learn more!
